We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

These are the words that make up the preamble to our constitution. With these words the founding fathers established the idea that the people of this nation have the duty to stand up and fight against injustice to make a better country for us all. We are facing a time of great turmoil and it is the responsibility of every one of us to stand up and say no.
No, we will not let them roll back our freedoms. No, we will not let them harm others while we sit quietly. No, we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of to make rich people even richer.
The corporations and billionaires of this country have, for too long, been allowed to trample on the American people. They gouge us with high prices to make record profits, while pretending they can’t afford to pay workers a fair and livable wage. Labor rights are being dismantled all to increase their profit margins. This Administration is destroying every safety and workplace regulation we have, not to help any of us, but to enrich the corporations and business owners.
We have forgotten that just over a hundred years ago, workers in this country fought, bled, and even died for the rights we are so blithely and ignorantly giving away. Rights like an eight hour work day, five day work week, fair compensation for work, a minimum wage, and overtime pay were all rights that people in generations before us fought for. They stood on picket lines, went on strike, were beaten by hired security and in the case of one infamous battle, some coal miners in West Virginia actually had a gun battle with law enforcement (The Battle of Blair Mountain, look it up.)
There is a reason why unions used to be a very big deal in this country and why corporations have made a concerted effort to destroy them and prevent new ones from forming. An organized workforce forces companies to pay better wages, provide safer working conditions and keeps management from exploiting their workers. We have allowed the propaganda from the rich to change our thinking into believing that the corporations will take care of us and put our needs first. This is a lie. Money is the only thing they care about.
We need to take back our power. The only thing companies listen to is money, so we take ours away. The last real right we have as Americans, is where we spend our money. So why should we give any of it to companies that don’t treat us well? Join the boycotts of companies that are treating their workers unfairly, places like Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Coca-Cola to name a few. Then on Friday February 28th, join The People’s Union in their Economic Blackout.
This Friday, spend no money anywhere. No gas. No groceries. No shopping of any kind. Buy your necessities the day before but don’t buy excess amounts of anything to make up for not spending anything on the 28th. It is time to show these companies that this is our country and we aren’t going to let them push us around anymore. If we stand together there is no stronger force. We The People!
