I happened across a clip of a podcast today where a man was talking about how the feminization of our society was destroying our country and that toxic femininity was to blame for everything by bringing love and compassion. This is paraphrased from his remarks but this man, Charlie Kirk, said that men are needed to bring back law and order to our country. Toxic femininity? It is very interesting to me that men like this Charlie Kirk, these clearly misogynistic males that have most likely been accused of having toxic masculinity, are trying to turn the phrase back onto women. They are going to revert back to their playground days and do the I’m rubber, you’re glue taunt in the hope that we will all believe it has really been women’s behavior that has been toxic all this time, and not their own.
It would be nice to think that men like him are few and far between but a simple Google search will show you that there is a growing community of like minded men and even, unfortunately, some women. A few months ago while at work, a male coworker randomly in a conversation, that in no way related to the topic, tried to inform me about the feminization of men. I cut him off before he could really get started, so I’m not sure exactly where his lecture was headed but an educated guess would be to the downfall of society. These men are everywhere and in their minds they are superior to women. They use the word feminine like it’s an insult.
What is so wrong with being a woman? I am proud to be a woman. It angers me when I hear men call each other girly or some variation on essentially calling each other women, like that is the biggest insult there could possibly be. We are not the sad, weak creatures men have tried to keep us as throughout history. Those days are over. We now do the same jobs men do. We play sports just like men do. We own businesses just like men do. We can do it all, be just as strong and fierce as we need to be and still do it with love and compassion. For that is what men like Charlie Kirk don’t get, emotions don’t make you weak.
These Alpha male personas may get some followers on their podcasts but it isn’t going to stop women from speaking out. No matter how much they wish for it, women are not heading back to the kitchen. We are done with standing in the background and letting the men handle everything. And isn’t that really why all these guys are so upset? We are on the cusp of potentially having our very first female president in this country and these men are very scared. The wave of pro-female power is almost palpable. I for one am loving every minute of this historic moment in time but I know that for these men, who view themselves as superior, it is especially galling.
I have always been accused of being too feminist but I don’t think there is such a thing. Women shouldn’t be afraid to speak up when things are wrong or when someone says things you find offensive or degrading. The double standard for men versus women, I have always found annoying. How a man who stands up for himself is strong and has leadership qualities but a woman who does the same thing is a ball buster and not a team player. Yes, our society has made great strides forward in terms of gender equality, well, until they took away Roe anyway. However we still have a lot of work to do and women deserve better. And as our next president says, We aren’t going back!
