As much as I love to travel, I love coming home as well. No one is happier when I return home, than my dogs are. From the minute I open the door they show me how much they have missed me, if only everyone would greet me with such enthusiasm. Although if people slobbered on me as much as my dogs do, I would be mad.
Sleeping on hotel and Airbnb beds for three weeks, really makes you appreciate your own. The too firm beds and thin pillows definitely make you long for home. No doggie alarm clock is a plus though. When I’m home, Monty and Beau unfailingly wake me up at seven in the morning. There is never any sleeping in with them, there is no alarm clock more accurate than they are. The wet nose in your face or tongue that just licked your mouth, let’s you know that it’s time to get up.
Steve and I just got back from our trip where we visited Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Poland. We had an amazing time but with our very full itinerary, our vacation was definitely not restful. When we first started traveling, we never added in any days after we got back to rest up. It has been a hard learned lesson that we need a day or so to just sleep and laze around before we go back to work. That was especially true for this trip.
Steve loves history, so we saw as many historical sites as he could fit into our schedule. I threw in some museums and shows to balance all the heavy history lessons. We ate a bunch of amazing food and walked everyday to take in all the beautiful sights until our feet were aching. The blisters on my heels will attest to all the walking.
Now we are back home and it’s straight back to the grindstone. Vacation is now just a fond memory. No matter how hard you try to hang on to that vacation high when you return, work somehow manages to beat it out of you quickly. I will just have to anxiously await my next time off.
