Holiday Spirit

I spent yesterday completely infested with holiday spirit. The whole day was baking cookies, wrapping gifts, and watching Christmas movies, which yes included the greatest Christmas movie of all time, Die Hard. (Shush all you naysayers, it takes place at Christmas hence Christmas movie.) Anyway, this last month since Thanksgiving has been very busy and I can’t believe the holidays have already arrived.

My birthday was at the beginning of the month and Steve took me to Paris to celebrate. We spent three days wandering French Christmas markets drinking Vin Chaud (hot mulled wine) and eating delicious treats. So much holiday fun was packed into that short trip. I think those few days really got me in the mood for the holidays this year.

When we came home my mom and sister helped me decorate the house. Steve will help get boxes down but doesn’t enjoy decorating. My sister loves it however and is more than happy to come over and help me make my house look like Christmas threw up on my lawn, to quote our older sister. We added more to the display this year and I can’t wait to hear the groans of disgust from the eldest when she sees it. The six foot snowman I added and the adorable dinosaur additions from my sister will guarantee some gagging noises at the very least.

Most years it is hard to get into the holiday spirit. With our jobs, Steve and I usually have to work on the holidays, so it’s difficult to feel the same amount of joy that others find in them or that we felt in the past. I am not feeling that way this year though and have been incessantly watching holiday movies. As always we will be working the actual holiday and will have our family get together a few days later but it will still be fun.

For our get together, as always, we have planned a veritable feast, honestly far more food than the eight of us can actually eat, but we will try our hardest. We will play games, talk, laugh, cook, and just spend time together. Spending time together is the best part and the whole reason for any of it. I hope all of you get to spend your holidays with the ones you love as well, even if it maybe isn’t on the actual day itself. Happy Holidays!
